STAY IN YOUR COMFORT ZONES
.
'Get out of your comfort zone'. This common phrase in social media is about breaking the routine of our lives and embrace new things in life. But what does this phrase really mean ? Get out of our comfort zones and start living in a discomfort zone instead ?
.
If you think about it, none of us truly moves out of our comfort zones. We actually move from one comfort zone to a new comfort zone instead. Even people, who choose a lifestyle where they are pushing themselves to their full capacity all the time, are finding comfort in the fact that they are pushing themselves. In other words, it is their new comfort zone.
.
So, let us discover and experience new comfort zones in our lives instead of trying to get out of them!

As a traveller, I am very fortunate to be able to enjoy the experiences that come with visiting exotic locations. Every time, I visit such locations I end up picking a few invaluable lessons along the way. While domestic trips do teach us valuable lessons, travelling abroad sensitizes us to various cultures, languages and customs that help build a global mindset. Today, more and more millennials dream of travelling abroad. In general, millennials plan for at least one international trip every three years. Thus, it is no surprise that I am often asked “How do we afford such trips?” If we want to make this dream of travelling abroad into a reality, we should start planning early. A good way to go about this is to look for investments that can help us achieve the same. During my research, I came across the ICICI Pru GIFT Plan (Guaranteed Income for Tomorrow) from ICICI Prudential Life. It is a protection and savings-oriented life insurance plan that offers a life insurance cover, along with benefits in the form of a guaranteed lump sum or guaranteed regular income that can help us plan for future trips. With the ‘Save the Date’ feature we can choose when we receive our guaranteed income and plan trips accordingly. Thus, with proper financial planning, we can plan to achieve their dreams of international travel! Kyuki agar tayari sahi ho toh jeet pakki hai – In association with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. CELEBRATE YOUR WINS
.
In schools, we were taught to maintain humility in the way we speak. Humility being a bit of an abstract term, confuses many of us and it forces us to downplay our wins as luck or fluke and make it seem insignificant. Being humble, was after all supposed to be a cornerstone of our personality.
.
But as adults, having seen glimpses of how the world works, we would go to the length and say that being humble can be equivalent to being voiceless in many situations. If you have achieved or created something good with your talent & hardwork, be bold and confident in projecting it for what it is; a win of your own, through your time and effort. Your talents are not something you need to hide or downplay. Feel free to openly talk about your wins, which you are proud about. Because no one else is gonna do it for you but you!

YOU CAN, DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD!

Has anyone ever told you that you have great potential in something, but you are just wasting it instead ? What is the right choice, if you indeed have great potential in something on which you have no interest at all ? It is a tough question.

It may seem like an obvious choice to not let that specific potential of yours go to waste, by trying to make that your path in life. But getting stuck with a journey which doesnt hold your interest is a sad situation to be at whichever way we look at it.

Skill / Potential / Talent for something, are things that can be developed by focussed effort, if we have sufficient interest there. Doesn't work the other way though. We cannot build an interest in something just because we have good potential for it. So, better to value our interests above our potential. You don't owe it to anyone to use your potential in ways which do not interest you.

OBSESSION FOR PERFECTION
.
An interesting moment in the @netflix series 'Better Call Saul' is where Saul Goodman says "perfection is the enemy of the perfectly adequate". This is actually very very vital lesson which, if understood properly, can do wonders in our life.
.
Google 'Pareto principle'. This says that 80% of your results comes from 20% of your effort and time. Attaining the remaining 20% of the result requires a gigantic 80% of your effort and time. What this basically means is that the time and effort required from you is the same for,

a) Completing 1 task with 100% perfection
OR
b) Completing 5 tasks with 80% perfection
.
The key thing here is to identify what are the 20% activities required from your side that will generate that 80% result. There are indeed scenarios where 100% perfection is required from us. But there are lot many more scenarios where 80% perfection is perfectly adequate in life. In those scenarios, feel free to apply the 'Pareto principle' so that you can get things done 5 times faster. You don't have to be PERFECT in the situations where PERFECTLY ADEQUATE is perfectly adequate !

NOT DOING THIS FOR LIKES & COMMENTS

I am not doing this for likes & comments.
I am doing this for my own satisfaction.
.
When you hear someone saying this on social media, 90% of the time there may not be much honesty in it. People who actually don't care about public validation almost never share stuff regularly on public platforms.
.
Coming to us, we love the likes and comments we recieve on the stuff we share on social media. Knowing that something we created is being appreciated by others is indeed a part of our happiness. It also provides us some earning in the form of brand collaborations.
.
Do we enjoy the likes and comments on our posts? Yup.

Are we disappointed when someone unfollows? Of course.

Do we feel good when we get brand collaborations? Definitely.

Lastly, is it important for us to know the stuff we share is being appreciated by all of you ? Damn yes!
.
There is nothing to be apologetic about wanting validation on social media. Isn't that a big purpose of social media anyways ?

TOGETHER, BUT NOT ALWAYS.

What happens when a couple have conflicting preferences between themselves? Most probably, one of them end up compromising for the sake of the other. These conflicts can range from something trivial like choosing which restaurant to dine at, to big decisions like choosing a car or a house. Irrespective of the scale of the decisions, compromising on your preferences on a regular basis for your partner can brew hidden toxicity in relationships.
.
Is there a way out of this without compromising on your individualities? Yes! Forego togetherness temporarily when your preferences are conflicting. At times, when I feel like eating a Burger and she wants to eat Masala Dosa, instead of compromising, we will visit both places. I would eat at KFC and she would eat at A2B. If I want to buy tickets for a pixar movie and she wants to watch a thriller, instead of compromising, I would buy a ticket for the pixar movie and she would buy a ticket for a thriller. We may not be together during the show time, but we end up being more together afterwards. Don't suppress your or your partner's individuality for the sake of alignment in your choices. And when we are faced with choices which cannot be met separately, then the simple thing we do is a coin toss to decide who gets their way. Fair, Square and no hard feelings!

WHAT IF EVERYBODY THINKS LIKE YOU?

When it comes to our choices against society's conventional wisdom, this is a question that can throw us totally off guard. Some examples.

- I dont think I want kids -
Oh, What if everybody thinks like you? Will humankind exist ?

- I am not getting married -
Oh, What if everybody thinks like you? Will there be a society ?

These are seemingly legit questions which trick us into obedience through some form of moral guilt. But these sort of questions fall apart, once we start answering, "IF everybody thinks like me, then you surely have a point , but WILL everybody"? As long as you are a regular Joe who has zeroe influence on how the world works, and not some super famous person, you can easily reject this 'What if everybody' questions.

So next time when someone comes at you with a "What if everybody" question, Show them your social media accounts and ask, "Do you see millions of followers here? You don't, do you? So please keep your opinion to yourself!"

UNIVERSE DOESN'T CARE

"And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." - Paulo Coelho
.
Awww. How cute! We cannot count how many times we have seen this quoted in positivity books and motivational speeches. What a load of bullcrap!
Well, the truth of real life is the universe doesn't give a damn about you or your dreams". If you really want something.. If you really dream of something.. count on yourself to be the sole soul capable of working the ass off to take you there.
In the end, the person who cares most about you is always you! Facing our hard truths will only make us stronger.

IT'S OKAY TO BE AMBITIONLESS

Our society worships ambitious people so much to the extent that people who happily lead ordinary lives are looked down upon. 'Dream Big' is the universally accepted norm. But do we ever stop and wonder why it has to be that way for everyone?

You don't have to dream big to lead a meaningful and satisfied life. You don't have to be ambitious to be happy and content with your life. Not everyone in the world wants big and busy lives. What we should all strive for is to figure out what makes our life happy and keep doing more of it. Dream big if your happiness lies in grandeur. Dream small if your happiness lies in simplicity. Whatever it maybe, do not give ears to the worldview which shouts that the purpose of life is big ambitions.

GIVE UP WHEN YOU HAVE TO

From childhood onwards, we have been taught repeatedly to "never give up". Well, they should have taught us ''know when to give up'' instead. Make no mistake, knowing when to give up is a very important life skill, which if not learnt can ruin your relationships, career or even life in general. So, next time when you are faced with an insurmountable situation where odds are stacked highly against you, consider the option of giving up without any shame or guilt, instead of charging ahead towards doom. Know that you are in the process of understanding and mastering a vital life skill.
