Owlgebra? Winging it? What do you think this owl dad is teaching his son?

This weekend, we’re celebrating Father’s day with a group of Inuit artworks that show off the relationships between dads and their kids. From playing with their children to teaching them to hunt, enjoy seven works that show off paternal love at #IAQOnline

Shout it from the rooftops! 📣

This exhuberant figure is by this week’s Throwback Artist Spotlight Karoo Ashevak of Talurjuaq (Taloyoak), NU. Ashevak’s evocative sculptures often highlighted the natural shape of the whalebone or antler, detailed with wide, asymmetric eyes, flared nostrils and expressive, open mouths. Find out about Karoo Ashevak’s inspiration at his #IAQProfile

Where are the places Inuit artists find stone?

High-quality carving stone—like serpentinite, argillite and steatite—is a valuable resource, critical for Inuit artists to create the sculptures we all adore. But it is getting harder and harder for many artists to access this foundational material. Elaine Anselmi recounts the history of Inuit quarrying at #IAQOnline.

Happy National Indigenous History Month everyone!

As we use this month to celebrate the history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada, it seems only appropriate to look at the legacy left of Inuit in archival records across the world.

Revisit @inuittapiriitkanatami president Natan Obed’s examination of the records to see what history has been remembered and forgotten, and stay tuned for more Inuit history, art and otherwise, coming your way this month!

Read the full piece at #IAQOnline.
