Meet world-renowned biodiversity champion Tom Lovejoy in Exploring the Sustainability Challenge, Session 3 - now less than 1 week away!

Don't miss this rare opportunity to meet Tom Lovejoy, a world-renowned conservation biologist and one of the most important champions of biodiversity. Tom Lovejoy will be the featured guest of Session 3 of The Sustainability Laboratory's inaugural conversation series, Exploring the Sustainability Challenge. This session, Why is Biodiversity so Important?, will take place on Wednesday, June 23rd, at 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Tom Lovejoy, President of the Amazon Biodiversity Center and Senior Fellow at the United Nations Foundation, will be in conversation with Michael Ben-Eli, founder of The Sustainability Laboratory. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience. If you are unfamiliar with Tom Lovejoy and his work, allow us to introduce you to him!

đŸŒ± Tom Lovejoy has been referred to as the "Godfather of Biodiversity", and is credited with coining the term "biodiversity".
đŸŒ± He has been working in the Amazon for over five decades, and his expertise has helped shape the fields of tropical and conservation biology.
đŸŒ± He is the founder and president of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, and a Senior Fellow at the United Nations Foundation.
đŸŒ± He created the concept of "debt-for-nature swaps" (the exchange of a portion of a nation's debt for investment in conservation initiatives), which have since generated over $3 billion in funds for conservation projects!
đŸŒ± He has served on science and environmental councils under the Reagan, Bush, and Clinton administrations, and served as an advisor to the World Bank.
đŸŒ± He has authored numerous publications and multiple books on the subjects of biodiversity and climate change.
đŸŒ± Tom Lovejoy is credited with bringing the issue of global tropical deforestation to public attention.

We are looking forward to the third session of our conversation series on June 23rd, and hope to see you there! Please see this link for more information and to register for the event [link also in bio!]: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/156697361025

These aren't just any pools of water! This photo shows rainwater retention at Project Wadi Attir, our flagship sustainable development project with a Bedouin community in the Negev Desert. The project's ecosystem restoration initiative restored a formerly heavily degraded site to agricultural productivity - the land in this photo was completely barren just 12 years ago! After remodeling the topography of the land using low-impact, low-earth mounds and engaging in massive planting efforts, rainwater that previously ran right off the site now infiltrates into the ground, providing important moisture for soils and plants. Today the site is the lush oasis that you see before you. .
