Built on the site of a former Soviet munitions factory, the #HeydarAliyevCenter opened in 2011, its architecture embodying an enlightened philosophical framework with fluid forms that open and engage with Azerbaijan’s culture. 
Exterior surfaces rise from their surroundings to define a flowing sequence of exhibition and performance spaces within, inviting the city into the heart of building.
Named ‘Design of the Year’ by London’s @DesignMuseum, the centre was cited as "a masterwork of invention and execution.” Since opening in 2012, the centre has hosted the widest variety of exhibitions and performances by local and international artists. On his visit to Baku, Pope Francis addressed local residents and religious leaders in the centre’s theatre.

Zaha Hadid Architects partners with Hyperloop Italia to jointly design its next phase of works . Hyperloop transports passengers at very high speed safely, economically and sustainably. Using passive magnetic levitation technology powered entirely by renewables, Hyperloop propels passenger and cargo capsules through low-pressure tubes to minimise friction, requiring only a fraction of the energy needed to power traditional modes of public transport. . Combining energy from renewable sources with regenerative braking systems makes Hyperloop's infrastructure capable of producing more energy than it consumes. The climate-controlled passenger capsules travel in sealed tubes and remain unaffected by external conditions. . Circulation in museums is very critical – not just the ability to walk through the space but the ease with which you can view the art. The Eco Park Stadium for Forest Green Rovers has won the AR Future Project Awards 2021 organised by @TheArchitecturalReview in collaboration with @MIPIMworld. In addition to winning the ‘Sports & Stadia’ category, Eco Park Stadium was also awarded this year’s ‘Sustainability Prize’. . A window into tomorrow’s cities, the AR Future Project Awards celebrate design excellence in projects currently being developed around the world. . Approved by the English Football League earlier this year, when completed, Eco Park Stadium will become the new home of Forest Green Rovers Football Club (@fgrfc_official) with important new facilities for its local community. . With the team’s community and supporters at its core, fans will be as close as five meters from the pitch. The stadium’s continuous spectator bowl will maximise matchday atmosphere and incorporates the club’s future growth. . TBT: #OnThisDay five years ago, the ‘Zaha Hadid’ exhibition opened at the Palazzo Franchetti #Venice . Celebrating Hadid’s career in architecture and design spanning four decades, @FondazioneBerengo hosted an abridged retrospective exhibition of her work at the 16th century Palazzo Franchetti on the Grand Canal, #Venice, #Italy. . The exhibition coincided with the 2016 Venice Architectural Biennale and showcased many of the seminal paintings, drawings and models of #ZahaHadid’s repertoire, conveying the ingenuity and dynamism of the projects in a variety of media including photography and film. . Home to the new ME Dubai hotel (@medubailife), the Opus for @OmniyatOfficial was designed as two separate towers that coalesce into a singular whole—taking the form of a cube. The cube has been ‘eroded’ in its centre, creating a free-form void that is an important volume of the design in its own right. The two halves of the building on either side of the void are linked by a four-storey atrium at ground level and also connected by an asymmetric bridge 71 metres above the ground.

The cube’s double-glazed insulating facades incorporate a UV coating and a mirrored frit pattern to reduce solar gain, while the void is created from 4,300 individual units of flat, single-curved or double-curved glass. The high-efficiency glazing units are comprised of 8mm Low-E glass (coated on the inside), a 16mm cavity between the panes and 2 layers of 6mm clear glass with a 1.52mm PVB resin laminate

During the day, the cube’s facade reflects the sky, the sun and the surrounding city; whilst at night, the void is illuminated by a dynamic light installation of individually controllable LEDs within each glass panel.

Furniture by @ZahaHadidDesign is installed throughout the hotel, including the ‘Petalinas’ sofas and 'Ottomans' pods in the lobby that are fabricated from materials ensuring a long lifecycle and its components can be recycled. The ‘Opus’ beds in each bedroom while the ‘Work & Play’ combination sofa with desk are installed in the suites. The hotel’s bedrooms also incorporate the ‘Vitae’ bathroom collection, designed by Hadid in 2015 for @noken_porcelanosa_bathrooms, continuing her fluid architectural language throughout the hotel’s interiors.

The ‘High-performing Urban Ecologies' installation by #ZahaHadidArchitects (ZHA) responds to the ‘Resilient Communities’ theme of this year’s Italian Pavilion curated by Alessandro Melis for the Venice Architecture Biennale 2021. Presenting ZHA’s Unicorn Island masterplan that is currently under construction in Chengdu, China, the installation incorporates the Alis pod and is situated within the Giardino delle Vergini at the entrance to the Italian Pavilion in Venice. Integrating architecture, engineering and urbanism to develop low carbon solutions that conserve energy and resources, ZHA’s holistic approach is redefining the built environment’s true measure of efficiency as the improved well-being of its inhabitants. . Driven by the region’s ongoing programme to re-establish its natural wetlands, the 67-hectare Unicorn Island masterplan borders Xing Long Lake and incorporates natural water management and conservation systems, its parkland design integrates clusters of buildings surrounding a central plaza and metro station; enabling the entire island to be accessed by a few minutes’ walk or bike ride. . Combining flexibility and comfort with advanced technology, the Alis meeting pod enhances collaboration and cooperation within a design informed by the petals of an orchid that envelop the pod to provide privacy and shelter with optimal visibility. Constructed by @Tecnospa with precision manufacturing, the modular design enables Alis to be easily be repurposed and re-used in different configurations. Each component of the pod is part of its circular design cycle that ensures long-life durability and minimal waste with components that can be recycled or upcycled into second life applications. . Adjacent to the new Fengtai business district’s rail station at the intersection of five new lines currently under construction on Beijing’s Subway network, Leeza SOHO’s site is diagonally dissected by an underground subway service tunnel.

Straddling this tunnel, the tower’s design divides its volume into two halves enclosed by a single facade. The space between these two halves extends the full height of the tower, creating the world’s tallest atrium at 194m which rotates as the tower rises to realign the upper floors with Lize road to the north.

This rotation of the atrium intertwines Leeza SOHO’s two halves in a dynamic ‘pas de deux’. Acting as a public square for the new district and providing varying views due to its twisting, sculptural form, the tower creates a fantastic new civic space for Beijing that is directly connected to the city’s transport network.

Leeza SOHO’s double-insulated, unitised glass curtain wall system steps the glazing units on each floor at an angle, providing narrow ventilating registers to draw outside air through operable cavities; creating extremely efficient environmental control for each floor.

Targeting LEED Gold certification, #LeezaSOHO’s energy management system monitors real-time environmental control and energy efficiency. The tower includes an insulating green roof with photovoltaic array; 2,680 bicycle parking spaces, with lockers, shower facilities and dedicated charging spaces.

#throwback in recognition of tonight’s @BRITs Awards – the 2017 BRIT Awards statue designed by #ZahaHadid . . . . . . BRITs Chairman Jason Iley initially reached out to Hadid in early 2016. Iley wanted to create something modern and culturally relevant for The BRITs. . Explaining his reasons for approaching Hadid, Iley continued, “Their work is innovative, original and recognises diversity in culture. It has much in common with music – the perfect choice for progressing the Award into the future.” . The BRIT statue design project was led by Maha Kutay, Director at @ZahaHadidDesign, and Niamh Byrne for The BRIT Awards. . Speaking about the design Maha Kutay said: “Zaha’s vision was to focus our efforts on the 3D element, as the statue had previously been used as a canvas for artists to paint on for the last few years. The design expresses our unwavering optimism for the future and a break from the norm. The biggest challenge was to create something new within certain guidelines, yet achieving a result recognisable to the public.” . A family of 5 statues made up the 2017 BRIT Awards statues. Kutay explains the family of five idea, “the concept represents diversity, the family is connected by a wave of transition, they are different yet connected.” . A huge music fan, Hadid had cited a range of artists including Drake, Bryan Ferry, The Beatles and Adele amongst her favourites in an interview with Desert Island Discs shortly before she passed away. In 2015 she partnered with Pharrell Williams to collaborate on a design for a pair of trainers. Williams said, “I’m a huge fan of Zaha’s.
